As you may or may not know, Costello has once again been named the #1 Best Places to Work (medium-sized company) by the Houston Business Journal. Costello has been ranked #1 two years in a row and 4 times out of the last 6 years! And for the first time, we’ve also just been named as #2 Top Workplaces (small company) by the Houston Chronicle!
This accomplishment is a definite source of pride and fulfillment for my partners and me because it tells us that our employees love where they spend the majority of their waking hours…5 days a week, 49+ weeks a year. We’re genuinely happy that we have a firm of folks committed to doing the right things to build a quality firm and sustainable legacy. And more importantly, a firm where people want to work.
I know this all sounds great to the Costello clan, but why should you care about us winning these awards? We know that our customers’ main goal is to have a project completed on time and within budget, and that is our number one goal. That being said, we feel there are several ways the Costello culture impacts the quality of every project and engineering experience we share with our clients. The first two reasons that come to mind are continuity and a great sense of ownership.
Our staff is our greatest asset! Many of our employees have been with us since our inception in 1991 and twenty percent of the firm has been with us for ten years or more, illustrating an extremely low turn-over rate. What does this mean for you…the client? Continuity. One way our clients realize the Costello difference is never being handed off to an ever-changing stream of project managers and engineers over the life of a project! Continuity results in a long lived project history, and familiarity with clients’ accounting practices and professional nuances that make work-life much simpler. Continuity also culminates through our steady relationships with influential individuals in the local engineering community and our institutional knowledge of all things engineering in the region. Completing complex projects in and around the fourth-largest city in the US inherently makes for a fast-paced web of potential roadblocks that must be traversed with skill and familiarity. We think that the continuity of our staff is a great asset in that respect.
We have long understood that our client’s success is our success. Founding Principals of Costello knew that a client’s dollar was as important as, or more important than, their own. This sense of ownership philosophy continues to be engrained in our engineering staff. At every level – administrative, drafter/designer, project engineer, and project manager - we all take pride in what we do. Our employees continually demonstrate time and again that they truly want to complete projects on time and on budget, and aim to partner with clients in order to create a truly successful project. We believe our devotion is due in great part to the fact that we love what we do and who we do it with, resulting in enormous dedication to the firm and to a job well done.
